Bandit is a ferret that we rescued over two years ago. When he arrived here ( owner couldn't care for him anymore) he was in a tiny cage with levels but no ramps for him to get to the levels, he literally had to do a chin up and pull up to get himself up onto a level. Even with the extra levels , the cage was way too small for him. He was eating cat food that looked like really cheap stuff, probably kit n kaboodle or Nine Lives, no matter what, cat food is not meant to be ferret food. But ...

Today I bought a sweet little girl rat, Flower, from a pet store. She was originally a feeder rat, but I wanted to play rescuer and so I bought her up. I inspected her eyes and ears, as well as her feet and coat for any signs of illness, and at the time she didn't seem to be weezing at all, so I didn't suspect any respiratory problems. Hey everyone! My user name says it all, lol, I'm a stay at home mom to many--both human and critter children!

I have:

6 human children (5 boys & 1 girl but not in that order; ages 17-2 years old)

3 dogs

9 indoor cats

3 male ferrets

3 rabbits

All of our animals except for 3 cats joined our family from different shelters, unwanted situations, or were found. The 3 cats were free kittens (that are really never, ever free lol). It's sad to say how many animals ...

I am asking everyone to send Stanley the dwarf hamster healing vibes and get better thoughts and all....

He has an awful abscess that is on his face and mouth, Dr.T drained it last Tuesday and he has been antibiotics since. So far there hasn't been much change in the size of the abscess. He may need the abscess surgically removed if it doesn't go away with the antibiotics. Despite the infection and pain he must be in , he is drinking and eating very well and he is active too. I have 11 female pigs and I love 'em all. Here are some pigtures of them.

June and Summer, my two Canadian girls. They are mother/daughter.

Miss Piggy, Abby and Pinkie. Pinkie is very special to me. I originally was fostering her from Rachel and adopted her after she was diagnosed with a level 3-4 heart murmur and has had fluid in her heart cavity. She is on medication to control her heart problem.

There is a behavior in hamsters that I mainly see in dwarf species but I am sure it may develop in syrians as well. When they repeatedly run back and forth in front of their cage, not like pacing, it is faster. A rescue Mom and her babies

Many of you may or may not know about a Mom rat that was dropped off here at Life Long Tails about two weeks ago. She was dropped off with 10 babies that were 4 weeks old. They are all adoptable now and there is one female and 9 males. Feeding Ratties

I'm just wondering what everyone is feeding their rats? My ratties seem to really like the Harlan Blocks and the cereal mix I make up for them. They love their veggies like carrots, peas, green&yellow beans, all the colors of fresh peppers, peanut butter, apples, pears, oranges to name a few. A couple times a week I will give them some meat like chicken and beef. So my younger boys are coming into their teenage years and Brie is showing signs of aggression toward me...He's bit me 3 times, 2 time HARD and badly broke the skin. I checked the other boys and they are showing no signs of bite marks so I think he's got some "mommy issues"...probably b/c I gave him a girl name Anyhow, he's going to need to be neutered, is my point, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much their vet charges, just so I can compare...

Ferrets and parrots

The people I got my Timneh grey from had a cute little ferret named Roxanne. She must have been the runt of the litter, as she was really small. I was really surprised that she had never tried to bother the parrot in any way, and she had the run of the house, plus the parrot was not enclosed in his cage. Anyhow, I've had the timneh for alost 6 months, and every once in a while he calls, "Roxanne!". I guess he still misses her.

My oldest is a double yellow headed Amazon named Sunny. We got Sunny in 1989.

Next is Baby, a blue front Amazon. We got Baby 2 months after Sunny in 1989.

Sprouts

I used to always sprout seeds and legumes for the birds. Sure it was a hassle to rinse them a couple times daily and make sure they didn't get bacteria or fungus , but the joy of the birds eating them was fantastic. Not to mention the health benefits sprouts have, they are highly nutritous. They were always eaten up by the finches, conures, parakeets and Judy the Timneh african grey.
